Privacy policy

What RTO Vehicle Information collects when you use the site, why, who sees it, and the choices you have.

1About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how RTO Vehicle Information (“we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, stores and shares information when you use rtovehicleinformation.in and its pages and tools (the “Site”). By using the Site you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the Site.

The Site is a private information service. It is not a government portal and is not part of Parivahan, VAHAN, Sarathi or any RTO. See our Disclaimer.

2Information we handle

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not take payments. Depending on the tool you use, the following information passes through the Site:

ToolWhat you enterWhy
RC searchVehicle registration numberTo fetch the vehicle record you asked for
Licence searchDriving licence number and, optionally, date of birthTo fetch the licence record; the date of birth is used only to match it
Resale valueBrand, model, year, variant and kilometres drivenTo estimate a value
Fuel, RTO, fines, learner's testA city, state, language or office code you pickTo show the matching list
ContactYour name, email and messageTo reply to you. The form opens your own email app, and nothing is sent until you send that email

We also receive basic technical information that every web request carries, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested and the time. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs for security and reliability.

3How we use information

  • to return the record, list or estimate you asked for;
  • to keep the Site secure, prevent abuse and limit repeated automated requests;
  • to understand which pages work and fix errors, using aggregate technical information;
  • to reply when you contact us; and
  • to meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use search details to build advertising profiles.

4Third parties that process a search

Vehicle, licence, resale and some list data are fetched through a third-party data library. When you search, the number you typed is sent from our server to that library, and the library returns a record. The library handles the request under its own terms and policies. Results can include details already held by the library, such as a masked owner name, vehicle specification, insurance dates or licence status.

We may share information with service providers who help us run the Site (for example hosting and security), only as far as they need it for that work. We may disclose information when the law or a court or authority requires it, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in a sale or reorganisation of the business.

Some pages link to official portals and other websites. We do not control those sites, so please read their own privacy policies.

5Cookies, storage and advertising

The Site uses Firebase Analytics, a Google service, to understand which pages people open, how long a page stays on screen, and which buttons and links are used. This covers page name, time on page, scroll depth, and the tool used, such as a successful RC search or the city chosen for fuel prices.

Registration numbers, driving licence numbers, dates of birth, names, email addresses and messages are not sent to Analytics. A search is recorded only as an action, for example “RC search succeeded”, never as the number you typed.

Google may store this usage data and use cookies or similar identifiers to tell visits apart. You can limit this in your browser by blocking cookies, or review Google’s own policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

To work faster, the Site also uses your browser's storage:

  • Session storage keeps your most recent RC search result in the open tab, so it is still there when you go back. It clears when you close the tab.
  • Local storage keeps the fuel city list and recent fuel prices so they do not reload on every visit. They refresh automatically.

You can clear this at any time in your browser settings. The Site works without it, only a little slower.

We may show advertising on the Site in future, for example through Google AdSense. If we do, advertising partners such as Google may use cookies or similar identifiers to show and measure ads, and you can manage this at adssettings.google.com. We will update this policy first and ask for consent where the law requires it. Ads will always be labelled.

6Storage, security and retention

We do not keep a history of what you search. A lookup is handled when you make it and is not saved to an account. We may keep non-personal list data, such as fuel prices or the RTO directory, in a short-lived cache. Request counts used to stop abuse are held for about a minute.

We use HTTPS, restrict our API to this Site's own pages and apply reasonable technical safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to answer you and keep a record of the conversation.

7Your rights and choices

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other applicable law, you may:

  • ask what personal data we hold about you and how it is used;
  • ask us to correct or erase personal data we hold;
  • withdraw consent you have given, which does not affect what was done before you withdrew it;
  • use the grievance process below; and
  • nominate another person to exercise these rights if you die or cannot act for yourself.

Write to contact@rtovehicleinformation.in. We may need to confirm who you are first, and we will reply within a reasonable time and as the law requires.

8Children

The Site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email contact@rtovehicleinformation.in and we will remove it.

9Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site or the law changes. The new version will appear on this page with a new “last updated” date, and the changes take effect when posted. Please check back from time to time.
